Ánimo is a Spanish word that means “vigor, mind, spirit, valor, and the courage to overcome odds.”
Our History
Ànimo South Los Angeles Charter High School was founded by Steve Barr of Green Dot Public Schools. Ànimo South Los Angeles was established in August 2004. It was Accredited by the Western Association of Schools and Colleges through June 30, 2014.
The core beliefs of Green Dot Public Schools are:

- We have and demonstrate respect for each other, for our school community, and for the community at large.
- It is critical that all key stakeholders (parents, students, teachers, and administrators) are actively involved in the education of each child and feel ownership of the school.
